What is Chemical Peels?

A chemical peel uses professional-grade acids to gently resurface the skin, accelerating cell turnover to improve texture, tone and clarity.

How does it work?

A customised acid blend dissolves the bonds between dull surface cells, encouraging renewal and revealing fresher, smoother skin while stimulating deeper repair.

What concerns does it help with?

Uneven textureDullnessCongestionFine linesUneven tone

Who is it suitable for?

From first-time peel clients to those wanting deeper resurfacing. Advanced peels require a consultation and patch test.

Who may not be suitable?

Chemical peels are not suitable for: active cold sores (herpes simplex) in the treatment area — prophylactic medication may be needed; use of isotretinoin (Roaccutane) within the last 6 months; pregnancy and breastfeeding (some peel formulations); active eczema, psoriasis, rosacea or dermatitis in the treatment area; open wounds, sunburn or compromised skin barrier; history of keloid scarring; uncontrolled diabetes; and allergies to any peel ingredients.

Clients with very sensitive skin or a compromised barrier may need a preparatory period with barrier-supporting skincare before peels. Your nurse will assess your skin and recommend the appropriate peel strength.

What should I expect?

The peel is applied and left for a set time; you may feel mild tingling or warmth. Sessions take around 45 minutes.

Preparation

For 5–7 days before your peel: discontinue retinol, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C and exfoliating products; avoid direct sun exposure, solariums and spray tans; do not wax, thread or use depilatory creams on the treatment area; arrive with clean skin — no makeup, lotions or skincare. If you are prone to cold sores, inform your nurse, as prophylactic antiviral medication may be recommended. For advanced peels, a pre-treatment skincare regimen may be prescribed during your consultation.

Aftercare

After your chemical peel, your skin may appear red and feel warm. Over the following days, depending on the peel depth, you can expect mild flaking or peeling (standard peels: 1–3 days; advanced peels: 3–7 days). Key aftercare: keep the skin clean and hydrated with only the products recommended by your nurse; do not pick, scratch or manually exfoliate peeling skin — let it shed naturally; apply the prescribed post-care moisturiser frequently; avoid direct sun exposure completely until peeling has stopped, then wear SPF 50+ daily; avoid active skincare (retinol, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C, fragrance) for at least 7 days or until fully healed; avoid swimming, saunas, steam rooms and strenuous exercise for 3–5 days; and avoid waxing or hair removal on the treated area for at least 2 weeks.

Diligent sun protection is essential to prevent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, especially in the Perth sun.

Downtime & recovery

Standard peels: mild redness or flaking for 1–3 days. Advanced peels: 3–7 days of flaking. SPF is essential.
