What is Microneedling?

Microneedling uses fine, controlled micro-channels to support the skin's natural renewal response. At MÜNE it is performed by a registered nurse with settings tailored after consultation and skin assessment.

How does it work?

Tiny micro-injuries prompt the skin to produce fresh collagen and elastin as it repairs, gradually improving texture, firmness and the appearance of scarring. A nourishing serum is infused during the treatment to support the renewal process.

What concerns does it help with?

Fine linesAcne scarringEnlarged poresUneven textureCollagen stimulationDull skin

Who is it suitable for?

Anyone wanting to improve skin texture, soften fine lines, refine pores or address mild scarring. A consultation confirms suitability and the right depth for your skin.

Who may not be suitable?

Microneedling is not suitable for: active acne, especially cystic or inflamed breakouts in the treatment area (can spread bacteria); use of isotretinoin (Roaccutane) within the last 6 months; history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring; active eczema, psoriasis, rosacea or dermatitis in the treatment area; open wounds, sunburn or active cold sores; pregnancy and breastfeeding; uncontrolled diabetes; blood-clotting disorders; and compromised immune system.

Clients with active breakouts should wait until acne is controlled before microneedling. Your nurse will assess your skin during consultation and may recommend an alternative or preparatory treatment first.

What should I expect?

After cleansing and numbing, the device is passed over the treatment area. Most clients describe a mild prickling sensation. Sessions take around 45 minutes including preparation.

Preparation

For 5–7 days before your microneedling session: discontinue retinol, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C, exfoliating acids and any active or sensitising skincare; avoid direct sun exposure, solariums, spray tans and self-tanning products; avoid waxing, threading or epilation on the treatment area. Arrive with clean skin — no makeup, lotions or skincare on the treatment area. If you are prone to cold sores, let your nurse know, as prophylactic medication may be recommended.

Aftercare

After microneedling, your skin will be red (similar to mild sunburn) and may feel warm and tight for 24–48 hours. Some clients experience light flaking on days 3–5. Key aftercare: keep the skin clean and hydrated with only the products recommended by your nurse for the first 48 hours; do not apply makeup for 24 hours; avoid direct sun exposure and wear SPF 50+ daily; avoid active skincare (retinol, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C, fragrance) for at least 5–7 days or until redness has fully resolved; avoid swimming, saunas, steam rooms and strenuous exercise for 48 hours; do not pick, scratch or exfoliate; and stay hydrated.

A course may be recommended after assessment. The number and spacing of sessions are tailored to your skin, healing and visible response.

Downtime & recovery

Expect redness similar to mild sunburn for 24–48 hours. Advanced sessions may involve light flaking. Most clients return to normal activities the next day with SPF.

Results

Skin looks fresher within a week, with progressive improvement in texture and firmness over 2–12 weeks as collagen rebuilds. A course of 3–6 sessions is usually recommended.

Individual results vary. No specific outcome is guaranteed. Your registered nurse will discuss realistic expectations during your consultation.

Typical treatment journey

Consultation (skin assessment, treatment plan) → 5–7 day pre-treatment skincare prep → Treatment day (45 mins, numbing applied, micro-channels created) → 24–48 hours redness and sensitivity → Days 3–5 light flaking → 2–12 weeks collagen remodelling → Next session at 4 weeks → Course of 3–6 sessions.
